Empowering Students to Own Their Learning

Second-grade teachers Rachel Chiesa and Katie Jenkins along with Enrichment Specialist Christie Wylie are promoting a love of learning by providing students with an opportunity for personal success, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, flexible thinking, and collaboration which they see leads to academic success. The journey toward what is dubbed, Student Agency, began with a districtwide training initiative under the author, Trevor Mackenzie. The next steps for the team is to collaborate among grade levels to further integrate Student Agency into everyday lessons across Sprague.
